Advent Calendar Christmas Tree

I cannot believe how close to Christmas we are! Yesterday at church they passed out the Advent books and it really hit me! Christmas is so close! Granted we have to get through Thanksgiving first, BUT if you are looking to prepare yourself for Christmas and Advent season then you’ll love to get started on my little Advent Calendar Christmas Tree!

When we were younger my mother had a wooden Christmas tree, very similar to this one. And every year she would take it out and hang it, and it had small hooks on each shelf that we’d hang little ornaments on. I’m not sure when we stopped using it or what happened to it, but when I started thinking about an Advent Calendar I knew I wanted it to be similar to that wooden tree.

For this advent Calendar I used reclaimed 2×4 wood but you can use anything you’d like!

Start by gathering your wood and cutting each to the same size. My pieces were each 2 ft x 6 in. To cut them and assemble them into a triangle form, follow my tutorial on how I made the Triangle wall shelves. The tree is basically a huge Triangle shelf lol.

Once you assemble them you can screw them or glue them together. If you glue them you should leave them to dry overnight.

You can also add the bottom piece of wood like the tree trunk. For that I found a small piece of scrap wood about 2×4 inches by 6 inches. I screwed it in from the inside of the bottom shelf.

Now I added 3 shelves, each about 5 inches apart. To do that I used scraps of wood, laid them over the area I thought was right and marked them with a pencil. Then I went and cut them at the 30 degree angle, similar to the cutting of the sides of the triangle.

Do all three and fit them into the tree screwing them in from the sides.

Once done you’ll have a tree! After this I painted mine a rustic white.

Now the boxes! I bought 24 of these paper mache boxes from the craft store and small round Christmas balls for the toppers.

Go ahead and glue the ornaments to the tops of the boxes. I made my ornaments lie in different directions.

Then I used a paint sharpie to write the numbers.

Once done you can fill them with a small gift or note for each day!! And that’s it!

Stack them however you’d like- mine fit better stacked in this manner.

And there you go! A perfect way to get the Christmas season started! You have one full week to make this and have it ready for Advent time! Happy Thanksgiving week everyone!
