There’s this common misconception (in my opinion) that summer is when things tend to slow down. Kids don’t go to school, there’s less work to be done, more vacations, time to relax, time to unwind. <—-LOL if anyone actually does any of those things. In my experience, my summers have been THE most hectic times of the year. I go, go, go. I run from one event to another, from one summer hangout to another late night. It’s almost as if summer is when I vamp up… but unfortunately, summer is also when I kind of lose myself. I go too fast, do too much. I. Don’t. Stop. And that’s when it all kind of falls apart for me… enter FALL.
When most people think of Fall they think of pumpkins and Starbucks, leaves and nature, sweaters and coziness. I think of a new beginning, pushing the reset button, and slowing downnnnn. I think of it as God’s mandatory rest for me- where nature starts to slow itself down and so does my mind. I think of breathing again and taking a big whiff of the pumpkin spice everything.
This summer was a whirlwind. It had its ups, definitely had its downs, and now I am beginning to see again, breathe again, feel again. The season’s change keeps me from staying in the same mode - and for that I’m thankful. When I lived in Guatemala I suffered without seasons! It’s known as the land of the eternal spring and while I love me some spring too, my heart desperately needed the change of the seasons. Now, with my second Fall back in Texas I’m looking forward to some focused rest.—> Focused rest…. That’s a relatively new term for me (maybe because I just made it up, lol) but what I mean it to say is not just bopping around doing all the things. I don’t actually just STOP doing stuff, I just choose carefully what and how I’m going to invest my time and energy and do things that make me feel good and rested and at peace. That’s why I made my Fall Bucket List. Do things that are purposeful and that I feel are good for me and my heart and of course, that are part of the season!
Here’s what’s on my Fall bucket list:
- Drink the famed Pumpkin Spice Latte
- Make a Fall Wreath
- Handwrite and deliver Thankful For You cards to friends
- Take photos of leaves and trees as they turn
- Watercolor a fall scene outdoors
- Make a mulled wine drink
- Bake a pie
- Pick some seasonal fruit at the Farmers Market
- Bake pumpkin bread
- Buy a fall/spice smelling candle for my studio
I’m not 100% sure that I’ll be able to accomplish them all (call me out if you think I’ve been slacking on this!) but that’s not the point, right? I tend to make things tasks and when I do I don’t enjoy the experience as much.
My point is to enjoy the season while enjoying some fun activities- not making them a to-do list! Now, what about you? What’s on your bucket list? Of course, I want you to participate too! That’s why you can grab my same bucket list printable and fill it in with your activities! Click the image below:
How are you going to enjoy your season?? I wanna know! Leave a comment and share- I might just add a few activities from your list to mine!
