Happy Monday! What better way to start a Monday off than with a little bit of a renovation story. A few weeks ago in March, I wrote a post on some bathroom renovations that I LOVE and found on Pinterest. It’s something I love to dream about, and such a fun concept, but I hadn’t had the opportunity to actually DO any type of renovations -UNTIL NOW. If you recall (and if you don’t that’s fine, lol), I had to move back home to my parent’s house! Bah! I know, it’s a bittersweet thing (but coming up soon you’ll know why). Because of the move, my dad transformed a closet that is under a staircase into a bathroom for me! I know, it’s awesome. I love the tiny home concept and after this renovation, it feels like I’m living TINY for sure!
Tiny is good
Welcome to my tiny bathroom, complete with a tiny sink and tiny standup shower.
Originally, the bathroom was not going to have a shower. I was just going to have to use the main shower bathroom in another part of the house, but we found this slim shower at Home Depot and decided it was just the right size for the space. That meant we had to move the door to the bathroom. Since it’s still in line with the staircase, it had to be cut at an angle. Hence the angled door!
We had to leave the toilet in this exact spot since we didn’t want whoever used it to stand and bump their heads on the stairs. Only IKEA’s slim sink fit perfectly into the space to make the tiny area more spacious.
I added a round flat mirror, bright white walls, and a small subway tile backsplash. Then just put some shelves under the stairs and I created more than enough space to make a tiny bathroom work functionally.

Tiny Bathroom Swoon
Now I’m sure you’re thinking, “well, you’re tiny” (yes, I am) but I think that it’s still a good size for a guest bath!
There you have it. A tiny under the stairs bathroom renovation. Before it was just a dark little space under the stairs. Now, it’s fabulous!
What do you think? Ever squeezed a bathroom in somewhere unusual? Let me know, I’d love to hear all about it! Have a great week!

I would love the details about the shower. Brand? Place to purchase? We are planning to renovate our bathroom (which was a hall closet previously) and need a new shower!
Cari
Hi! We bought the shower at Home Depot, it’s a 32in X 32in kind. There are several kinds and I can’t quite remember the name of this particular brand but if you look for the same size I’m sure you’ll find something similar! Thanks and good luck 🙂
Christy
Very pretty, functional and well done. How large is the space (room measurements)? I’m trying to create a 3/4 bath in a small room, too! Thanks.
Cari
Hi Christy, Unfortunately I don’t have the measurements on hand right now since I’m living out of the States at the moment. I want to say that (and these are verrry rough estimates, but can give a better idea) about 34 inches wide (about 2.5 feet) and about 6 feet long. The door swings out not into the bathroom. Hope that helps! It’s pretty tiny!
Tegan
Hey I really like this idea. I have to ask how did you do a vent for the shower?
Cari
Hi Tegan! Thank you. Since the bathroom is next to the outside wall, we thought of placing a tiny window to the outside. However, we would have had to cut into the shower stall which was going to be much more difficult. Instead we placed a ventilator fan above the shower stall that then has access to the outside. Hope that makes sense 🙂

Thks for sharing.
I plan to renovate my home (from only ground floor to have one floor above - fisrt floor).
I decide to have a bathroom under the stairs, because of the tiny area of my home.

I’m so glad you like the bathroom! What particular questions do you have? I purchased the sink and stand at IKEA, and the shower stall at my local home improvement store, Home Depot. Thanks!
Adam
That is a cute little bathroom, you did a wonderful job!
Cari
Thanks so much!
Kathy
Where did you get a shower curtain for the small shower. We have the same size and I can’t find anything
Cari
Hi Kathy! I couldn’t find one so I bought a regular one and folded it so that the hooks on the end are doubled. You can’t even tell!
