Christmas is such a great time to try out some new DIYs as gifts! I have quite a few friends that are going through new transitions in this season of their lives and personal DIY gifts are such a great way to go. This DIY Marble Coaster set is actually for one of my friends that is moving to her own place in the new year. It’s a really easy make and it looks really beautiful and chic once it’s all done. Try your hand at a few!

DIY Marble Coasters
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Oven Bake Clay (I recommend Sculpey Souffle brand) in two colors
- Parchment Paper
- Rolling Pin
- Paring Knife
- Cookie Cutter, Cup or Pattern to trace
- Sticky Back felt
To start off, I really recommend using the Souffle brand of clay as I mentioned above. There’s a difference in the clays and as I will explain later, this brand does better.

DIY Marble Coasters
Start by grabbing a lump of clay and working it in your hands. Depending whatever color you want to come through more, you’ll use more of that color. One lump will be for one coaster. It might make sense to do more, like cookies, but the marbling won’t work as well.

Add some bits of the second color by breaking it up and adding it to the main lump. It’ll take some time but work the clay in your hand and begin twisting it. The more you work the clay and twist, the more the color will mix. If you want a more muddled look, you can twist and twist.

When you finally feel you like the look roll the clay out into a circular shape. You can make all sorts of shapes like hexagons or square.

Then, take your shape pattern or cookie cutter and cut out the shape from the clay. I just used the top of a wide-mouthed cup.

Use an Exacto knife or paring knife to clean the edges up.

Repeat and make as many coasters as you’d like! Finally, bake them as instructions say. Once cooled, add your sticky back felt to the bottoms of each coaster.

And enjoy!

What I need to explain about the clay is that although the clay seems to be the same, different brands react differently once in the oven. I ran out of the original Sculpey brand I was using for the white clay, so I used white Souffle Sculpey on ONE of the coasters. Can you spot the different one?

One of these is not like the other, one of these doesn’t belong! lol! It’s not bad but as you can see, the top left coaster is a bit whiter than the others. It is because different clays react differently, some even shrink a bit. Now that I know this I am definitely aware and will probably only use the Souffle brand.

Either way, what’s a DIY gift without a little bit of a handmade touch!
